Afrilingua AI is a privately held company building a single application — Afrilingua — that gives you Aura, an AI assistant that runs your private life, and Gist, a federated social network where your handle and posts are yours. What we're building

Most "AI" products are a thin layer over a single API key. Afrilingua is the opposite: one identity, one memory, one assistant that quietly runs across every surface you use — mobile, web, desktop, your browser, your IDE — and a federated social network on the AT Protocol that you actually own.

The thesis

1. The personal AI doesn't live in a chatbox.

It lives across every surface you use, with one memory. We ship Aura on mobile, web, desktop, browser extension, VS Code, and a hosted sandbox — all hitting the same backend, the same per-user graph, the same context.

2. Your social identity should be yours.

Gist runs on the AT Protocol — the same open network that powers Bluesky. Your handle, your posts, your follows and your DMs are portable records, federated by default. We don't own you, and neither does anyone else.

3. Africa first is a feature, not a market.

The persona is named Padi — West African Pidgin for friend. Translation across African languages, payment rails through Flutterwave alongside Plaid, and cultural identity are first-class throughout the product — not retrofitted.

4. Bring your own key.

Aura runs against Anthropic Claude, OpenAI GPT, or Google Gemini using the user's own API keys. We are not betting on a single model provider — and neither should our users.

Why this is defensible

Cross-surface ownership. The agent runs in eight coordinated places — including iOS native (HealthKit, CallKit, Siri, NFC, Spotlight, Live Activities, Focus), a desktop "nervous system", a browser extension, and a VS Code chat participant. Every one of those bridges is custom work; that compound is hard to replicate.
One personal graph, eighty-eight tools. The agent reads from a per-user FalkorDB graph and writes to it through tools that all go through the same confirmation gate. Calendar, email, code, finance, smart home, social — one model of you.
Federation, not lock-in. Gist is on the AT Protocol. Users can take their handle and history elsewhere. That is the trust position, and we think it wins.
Cultural identity as design constraint. Most assistants sound Californian. Padi sounds like a friend. That difference compounds in markets where the alternative feels foreign.
